Full Depth Reclamation & Stabilization

Economical alternative to total pavement reconstruction

Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) and Stabilization is a pavement rehabilitation process that pulverizes and reuses the existing pavement and sub-base materials to produce a structurally strong pavement base course.

Candidate Selection
Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) is a process best suited for failed roadways where heavy pot holes, cracking and rutting exist. Even the most severe pavement problems can be solved using Full Depth Reclamation. These roadways deteriorate to a point that conventional maintenance and/or repair and overlay practices become expensive and do not perform well due to the condition of the underlying structure.

Performance
Full Depth Reclamation is a technique in which the full flexible pavement section and a predetermined portion of the underlying materials are uniformly crushed, pulverized or blended, resulting in a stabilized base course; further stabilization may be obtained through the use of available additives (ARRA).

FDR will produce structurally strong pavement base courses and eliminate reflective cracking in new asphalt pavement. Pavement crown, cross-slop, and curb reveal are all restored while achieving higher structural strengths with stabilizing additives such as cement, calcium chloride, and asphalt cement.

Advantages

  • Conserves energy and pavement materials

  • Restores pavement crown, cross slope, and curb reveal

  • Eliminates cracking, potholes, and rutting

  • Additives may be used to achieve adequate strength

  • Adding aggregate may enhance Sub-base material
