What is an apprenticeship?
The process of learning a skilled occupation through on-the-job training (practical, paid experience) and related technical knowledge in a classroom setting.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this training opportunity and meet the following qualifications you are eligible to apply.
Trainee must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school or general equivalency diploma. The trainee must also be physically able to perform the work required as determined by signing an affidavit attesting the physical ability to do the work (costs for medical examination, if required, are at the expense of the sponsor). The Trainee must provide their own transportation to and from the job site and all classroom instruction programs as well as pass a drug test, at the sponsor's expense after acceptance into the program and as a condition of continued employment consistent with the company's drug free policy. A valid NYS driver's license may also be required if apprentice is required to operate company vehicles.
Below is a link to the New York State Department of Labor training outline for the Operating Engineer (Grade & Paving Equipment) Apprenticeship. This training outline is a minimum standard for Work Processes and Related Instruction. Changes in technology and regulations may result in the need for additional on-the-job or classroom training.
